Our computers so important to us and it’s really no wonder. In the digital world we live in so much of what we do is online, from work to play to socializing. So making sure our devices are running well and protected is of the utmost importance. Here are some of the ways you can make sure your computer stays in good condition.
Be Wary With Food and Drink
Eating at the computer isn’t ideal but we’ve all had the occasional working lunch, it happens. However, it goes without saying that you should be especially careful with items that could be spilled near your machine. If one glass goes over next to your laptop, it could well be the end of it. If you’re going to be drinking next to your device, stick with a bottle where you can close the lid afterward. Or better still, keep liquids away from it entirely. If this ever happens, and you do spill water in it, immediately unplug your laptop and turn it upside down with the screen open. Remove the battery if it’s not a sealed unit, and use paper towels to dry off as much of the moisture as possible. Then most importantly, don’t try turning it back on for at least 48 hours, as if there’s any moisture when the electricity goes through it it will completely fry the components inside.

Be Careful of Overheating
If you use a laptop, putting it directly onto soft surfaces such as pillows or blankets can cause it to overheat and potentially damage some of the components inside. Even MacBooks that don’t get very warm at all will become hot on a soft surface, so it’s something to be careful of. If you want to use your laptop in bed, buy a tray for it or use a large hardback book. If you use a standard laptop with a fan vent or a desktop computer, making sure, the fan doesn’t become clogged is important. It can build up with dust, hair and debris preventing it from working properly and the machine getting too hot. Having the name of a computer repair company on hand such as Forever Wireless can be useful in case of situations like this, but of course, prevention is better than cure. Regularly cleaning it, and making sure the room you’re sitting in is free from dust will help keep it cleaner for longer.

Only Download Files You Know Are Safe
Both Macs and PCs can get viruses, so it’s crucial that you take steps to prevent this from happening. A bad virus can render your machine unusable, which can be extremely expensive to fix and result in the loss of all of your files. Never download anything from an untrusted website as you just don’t know for sure the code it contains. Be careful opening emails and generally think before you click on things. You might believe you’re quite clued up on this stuff but viruses are tricky things, and you could be fooled and inadvertently install something dangerous to your computer. A decent antivirus software should flag up anything harmful, but they can still get through so don’t solely rely on it to pick up the slack.
