Small Screen: Are There Any Mobile Sports Betting Strategies?

Who doesn’t have a mobile phone lodged in their pocket or purse wherever they go? Life pretty much revolves around the device, which is something of a Swiss army knife of modern technology that handles everything from your banking to your shopping and gaming.

Mobile betting has also increased rapidly. It’s an area in which sportsbooks have been keen to push because it has helped them capture a whole new audience. Sure they have to adapt technologically, offering features compatible with mobile devices, and incorporating modern payment options: PayPal, Neteller or Revolut betting sites are as common today, as those accepting bank cards. Constantly improving services and betting apps have pushed the current of mobile wagering along.

But are there any real advantages to getting on a mobile device for betting as opposed to a regular website? Are there any strategies that can be put together for betting?

Mobile vs Website

The first huge advantage of betting on a mobile platform is just the convenience of it. Sportsbooks run their markets around the clock, bringing together big bets on Futures well ahead of time, plus delivering massive amounts of in-play betting options.

Instead of having to be tied down to a physical location, say a home computer, mobile betting on the small screen has huge advantages. It doesn’t matter where you are, as long as you have a good connection then you have the sportsbook with you.

Bets cannot only be placed but the result of previous wagers can be checked too. So too can active wagers, which is really where the biggest mobile strategy can come into play.

Apps vs Mobile Website

There are two ways to explore mobile betting. That is either through a mobile app or via a bookmaker’s mobile website. You should get the same results, in that you can scroll markets and place bets, but there are noticeable differences between the two.

Mobile apps have an advantage. They can be opened quicker for starters, with just a simple tap of an icon compared to needing to open a mobile browser and enter an address or find a bookmark. Apps can be secured with biometric login and 2-factor Authentication, plus be set to receive push notifications informing you of things like offers.

Apps are specifically designed for mobile, so they operate swiftly, are lighter on data, and incorporate some great tools that can boost the user experience. Features like Cash-out, being able to settle a live bet early, and live streams that allow punters to judge live bets on current action can all help with strategy.

In-Play Hedging

One of the biggest and best mobile betting strategies is tied to the ability to watch live markets. In-play hedge betting is where this all comes together brilliantly for wagers. First, what is a hedge bet strategy?

It’s when a punter will use a second wager to oppose whatever option an initial bet covers. So for example, a pre-match bet could have been made on Manchester United to win a Premier League match.

But then in play when the situation and odds are right, a second bet on the same match outright market can be played. But this time it would be something like laying Manchester United on an exchange, or on a Draw-Arsenal Double Chance to cover the other two outcomes. Either way, the goal is to cover all the bases of a single market.

Why Hedge at All?

You may not need to. This strategy only comes into play when the initial wager looks to be on shaky ground. Maybe the game is 0-0 at half-time and United doesn’t look like scoring. Maybe they have conceded the opening goal of the game.

Hedging is a tool that bettors can employ when things line up nicely for them. It will only work when the odds on the in-play selection are going to either mitigate a reasonable chunk of the initial bet’s stake or when it can return a little profit.

Live Betting

Even without hedging, there is still a way to strategize with live in-play betting. This is a very common and simple matter of timing. A great example of the benefits of live in-play betting on mobile is watching and waiting for a prime time to strike.

A strategy such as jumping on an Over 0.5 or Over 1.5 goals option in-play on a fixture that is still 0-0 after 70 minutes is popular. It could also be waiting to see how a match unfolds through the early stages before placing a match outright bet.

If you fancied a pre-match selection on Chelsea to win, but a dull first half has left things at 1-1 at the break, that could work to your advantage. The price of the Chelsea victory, with half of the match gone, is going to be better than it was pre-match.

In Summary

Mobile betting, whether it’s snapping up the latest esports map market, or taking a flutter on the anticipated football match, betting is wonderfully efficient on a mobile. But it’s more than that. It’s the ability to formulate strategies around in-play betting that is where it really shines. With in-play betting, you can wait for the odds that you want to take, which is the biggest boon of all.
