Fade is one of the most recognizable finishes in CS2. Its surface is a smooth mixture of yellow, pink, and purple, sometimes followed by an uncolored gray area. These colors are not in the same places on all copies of the same skin.
One knife has color throughout most of the blade, while a gray section close to the handle is visible on another. This is indicated by the fade percentage. When comparing Fade skins, the percentage is one of the main factors, but it is only one aspect of the item.
Pattern index controls the placement of the finish, and float value is related to the wear. Knowing the different parameters makes it easier for you to compare price and look.
What Is Fade Percentage?
Fade percentage indicates how much of the intended gradient appears on the painted area of a weapon. Most Fade skins are placed on a scale running from roughly 80% to 100%. A lower percentage usually leaves more gray on the surface. A higher one shows more of the yellow, pink, and purple gradient.
This percentage is not displayed as a separate property in the standard Steam item description. It is a community measurement based on the skin’s pattern index and the way its texture appears on a particular weapon model.
The number should not be read as a general quality score. The percentage refers to the coverage and placement of the Fade texture.
Pattern Index Controls the Finish
Every patterned skin has a pattern index, sometimes called a pattern seed. This number determines which part of the texture is placed on the weapon. The underlying Fade design remains the same, but its position changes. In one pattern, the colorful section may cover almost the whole blade.
Another pattern can move part of the gradient away from the visible surface and leave more gray near the base or tip. The pattern index therefore determines the color arrangement and the percentage assigned to the item.
Fade Percentage Is Not a Float Value
Fade percentage and float value describe different parts of a skin. Float records its level of wear. A lower float generally means a cleaner exterior, while a higher number moves the item closer to its maximum available wear.
The Fade finish normally has a restricted float range of 0.00 to 0.08. As a result, Fade items are available only in Factory New and Minimal Wear condition.
Even within that narrow range, float can affect visible wear and collector interest. It does not change the pattern index. A knife with a very low float can still have an 80% Fade, and a Full Fade can have a higher float.
What Counts as a Full Fade?
A Full Fade is a pattern where the gradient covers the maximum intended area of the weapon. In practical terms, little or no gray remains on the important visible section. Full Fade patterns are generally listed as 100%, although some tools may round percentages differently.
The phrase “99% Fade” is most often used to refer to patterns that are fairly close to the maximum. Furthermore, the term “Fake Full Fade” is used by traders to denote items that are similar to Full Fades, but are not considered part of the Full Fade family.
Verification of the pattern index is a lot stronger than evaluation of a compressed image. You might not even notice the difference in a marketplace thumbnail; it might just be a little gray area. In community pattern lists, Full Fade seeds are also separated for individual knife models.
How to Check a Fade Skin?
Start by finding the item’s pattern index through its inspection information. Enter that number and the correct weapon model into a CS2 fade checker. The tool matches the seed with a known percentage and may also show its position within the pattern ranking.
Make sure the checker can handle the particular item. A calculator made for one knife model won’t grade another one correctly. If the item is advertised as 100% Fade, it is wise to compare the results from several well-known sources before making a costly trade.
An in-game inspection is still useful. A percentage cannot show how the colors appear under CS2 lighting, which side looks strongest, or whether the particular distribution suits the buyer.
