Every business these days struggles with productivity issues. Whether the team is in the office again, or still working remotely, it is an increasing challenge to make sure that every aspect of the business is firing on all cylinders. To make sure that you are getting everything out of your team, you need to have a suite of productivity software.
There are two big players that often get compared to each other. Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 are the two that are often looked at and are very popular. Either one will work well, but given your unique circumstances, one will be better suited to your company than the other. In this article, we will go over how they compare so you can decide which one is the better fit for you.
How they’re similar
There are many similarities in what the two programs offer. Namely, they both have spreadsheets, slideshows, and word processing. These are the basics that you would expect to have from any productivity suite of software. If you were to use one for a while and then make a switch, you wouldn’t have any issues figuring out how to use the new one since they are quite similar.
They also both offer conferencing software so you can have virtual meetings in real-time and stay connected with remote staff or clients. Most people are familiar with either Google Meet or Microsoft Teams and both are widely used. Switching from one to the other would, once again, simply be a matter of catching up with some of the user differences.
How they differ
How the programs operate is where the big differences come into play. For instance, on the surface, it would seem that Google is going to give you better connectivity and productivity since it operates in the cloud. This allows for seamless integration across many different devices. However, Microsoft is able to work offline and offers a very robust advantage. As long as you have a stable connection, you are able to achieve a much better flow than you would if you used Workspace.
Microsoft 365 also has the advantage when it comes to data plans as there is a range of plans up to 1TB of data storage available. However, when it comes to needing a lot of data storage then Google is the way to go since there is an unlimited data plan for the big players. Basic plans are better with Microsoft since you get more data for a lower price than you do with Google Workspace.
Security
It should be a very high priority when choosing a platform so you can stay safe as well as productive. Both programs offer very good security so there isn’t one that has a massive advantage over the other. However, Microsoft 365 does have some proprietary security software that does make it very robust and effective at keeping your data safe. This isn’t to say that Google Workspaces has any security flaws in comparison.
