How To Maintain a Gas Package Unit

Michael JenningsBy Michael JenningsSep 22, 2022No Comments4 Mins Read

A gas package unit is a heating and cooling system that combines the compressor and condenser into one unit that is mounted on the roof. Package units are a popular choice for many homeowners because they are less expensive to install and operate than split systems.

Gas package units are known for efficiency and consistent indoor temperatures. However, it’s important that you maintain your unit regularly to keep it running efficiently. If your home has a gas package unit, it’s important that you stay on top of certain maintenance tasks. Below are some tips on how to maintain a gas package unit.

Inspect your gas package unit for damage.

Inspect your gas package unit for damage.

When inspecting a gas package unit for damage, you’ll want to check for any obvious external damage and also look for any signs of leakage. If the unit is leaking, you’ll want to take steps to correct the issue before using it. You should also check the condition of the seals and gaskets on the unit and make sure that they are in good condition and properly in place. If there are any signs of damage or wear, you’ll need to replace them. Finally, be sure to check the wiring on the unit to ensure that it is in good condition and not damaged.

You should also inspect the outside of the unit for any damage or obstructions that could interfere with its operation. Debris, such as leaves or snow, can block airflow and cause the unit to work harder than necessary. If there is any damage to the unit, it should be repaired immediately to avoid further problems.

Tighten the electrical connections.

Electrical connections can loosen over time, which can cause the unit to stop working. Before you inspect or work on any electrical components, it’s imperative that you disconnect the power supply. In order to tighten the electrical connections, you will need a screwdriver. The screws that hold the wires in place are located near the top of the unit. To tighten them, hold onto the wire with one hand and use the other hand to twist the screwdriver. Be careful not to overtighten them, as this could damage the wires or connection point.

Clean the gas package unit condenser.

Clean the gas package unit condenser.

It is important that you properly clean the unit regularly to ensure that it runs as efficiently as possible. To maintain a gas package unit, you should first make sure that all of the filters are clean. The filters should be checked regularly and cleaned or replaced as needed. This will help with efficiency and improve your indoor air quality. You should also check the coils for dirt or dust build-up, which can reduce the efficiency of the unit. The coils can be cleaned with a garden hose; however, if they are very dirty, you may need to call a professional for assistance.

One way to clean a gas package unit condenser is by using a garden hose. The first step is to remove the front panel of the unit. Once this panel is removed, the next step is to attach the garden hose to the bottom of the condenser. The other end of the hose should be attached to a faucet that has high water pressure. Turn on the faucet and allow water to flow through the condenser for about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, turn off the faucet and reattach the front panel of the unit.

Lubricate the unit fan motor.

The fan motor in a gas package unit pulls air through the unit and exhausts it outdoors. This keeps the compressor running cool and prevents the formation of ice on the coils. You can lubricate the fan motor with light oil, such as 3-in-1 or WD-40. To do this, remove the access panel on the side of the unit and locate the fan motor. Use a spray bottle to apply a few squirts of oil to each end of the shaft. Be sure not to get any oil on the insulation around the motor, as this could cause a fire. Replace the access panel and test the unit.

Overall, it is important to maintain a gas package unit in order to ensure that it is running efficiently and to prevent any potential problems.
