Are Fishing Metaverses on the Horizon?

Michael JenningsBy Michael JenningsAug 28, 2026No Comments3 Mins Read

Of all the age-old pastimes that are likely to be around forever, fishing is up there. In addition to all the traditional forms of angling, there are now countless digital versions that offer people different ways to enjoy the hobby.

With virtual reality development accelerating and talk of metaverse technology continuing to develop, it is reasonable to expect that there could be fishing universes as well. People could enter these and fish virtually, without having to ever go to a real-world waterway.

Digital Fishing

The fact that fishing has already been adapted in various digital forms suggests that it’s a strong contender to get its own metaverse at some point. Along with the interest in computerised ways to enjoy the game, there are also diverse ways to experience it in pixel form.

The online casino industry is one setting where it’s possible to find an abundance of fishing titles. For example, players can try Big Bass Trophy Catch slot online, Big Bass Splash, and other games in the Big Bass series. In fact, it’s one of the most prevalent franchises in iGaming.

There are fishing-based options on almost every other platform as well. On mobile, players can choose between titles like Fishing Clash and Fishing World. There are also console and computer offerings such as Fishing Planet and Professional Fishing.

What’s notable about all these titles is that they provide experiences designed to appeal to a diverse range of people. Some are serious and aim to replicate real-world fishing. Others are more light-hearted and provide a relaxing activity.

VR Fishing Metaverses Could Make the Pastime More Accessible

There have already been various fishing titles in VR, and these could represent the first step towards angling metaverses. Real VR Fishing is the most famous example, and the game has been lauded for its realism.

Even with VR in its infancy, it’s clear that developers want to turn a lot of real-world activities into virtual options. There are VR walks that take people on adventures through national parks, along with options such as rollercoasters and skydives.

Fishing has emerged as something that can be adapted perfectly in VR, which is why fishing metaverses make a lot of sense.

Fishing metaverses could make the pastime much more accessible too. Until recently, people who wanted to get into fishing needed access to equipment and a local place to catch fish. In the future, the pastime may be available to a much wider range of people if VR titles become totally realistic.

This isn’t completely out of the question, as there have already been some impressive developments with the technology so far. According to a report in Grand View Research, the VR market could be worth around $77 billion by 2030.

If there are going to be metaverses dedicated to different passions, there could well be fishing-based ones on the horizon. Fishing has already shown its digital adaptability, and developers will likely continue to refine it in VR.
